After 5 races, 200 racing laps and 63 drivers, the 2007 Driver's Championship was won by one point.
Virgin's Julian Berry finished on 287 points to bmi's Kevin Jarvis with 286, and bmi's Richard Weber only 4 points behind.
The final race was not Julian's finest, and by finishing 5th he was unable to improve upon his already impressive points total, as his earlier races still accounted for his best 3 scores.
Keith Jarvis added to his rain-meister performances earlier in the year by scoring a solid 94 points in Event 5 that meant he could drop the first event's weak 88 points, and move tantalisingly close to glory.

However, even if Keith and Julian had tied on points, Julian would have still taken the trophy as his best three finishes were 1st, 1st, 4th to Keith's 1st, 3rd, 4th.
Behind them came Richard Weber, finishing the year with four podiums in 5 races to be the championship's Mr Consistency. Another to benefit by dropping a weak score, boosting his totals above the squabble for the next 4 places.
4th to 7th were covered by only 5 points, with easyJet's Kevin Cracknell jumping into 4th spot, and BA's Justin Undery completing the mugging of easyJet's Mike Wood, who had kept 4th spot warm for most of the season. BA's Perry Musty's perfect 100 score in Event 5 propelled him into 7th place. |
The Airline Championship
After the shock ruling of the sport's governing body, the FMR (Federation de Mike et Richard), to allow only airlines that field 2 or more drivers into the championship, Virgin Atlantic's season of glory was all but wiped out.
British Airways moved into a lead it was never to relinquish, and finished some 7 points ahead of bmi, who were in turn 16 points ahead of easyJet.
Friends finished the season 4th, with Virgin, NATS, ThomsonFly, XL, and Astraeus following in that order. |
